Wyldwood Fit-Out: A Sustainable Shop Design Story
The Wyldwood Collective fit-out is a story of sustainability, sentiment, and thoughtful design, created in the heart nof Lavender Bay on Sydney’s Lower North Shore. Designed and built over a short but meaningful period, the space reflects our values as a florist and creative collective: reuse over excess, story over trend, and community over perfection.
Our shop fit-out began on 22 December 2025 and was completed by 3 January 2026, just in time for opening.
In under two weeks—spanning Christmas and New Year—we transformed an empty space into a working florist studio and retail store using largely salvaged, repurposed, and reclaimed materials.
A Sustainable Fit-Out Built with Reclaimed Materials
Sustainability was central to every decision made during the Wyldwood Collective fit-out. Rather than sourcing new fixtures and furniture, we chose to work with what already existed.
Many of the furniture pieces throughout the store have been salvaged or handmade from repurposed materials, including discarded pallets and second-hand furniture. These materials were rebuilt into display plinths, shelving, and work surfaces—functional pieces that reduce waste while adding texture and character to the space.
This approach to sustainable interior design aligns with our broader philosophy as a florist: seasonal, considered, and respectful of natural resources. The result is a space that feels warm, lived-in, and intentionally imperfect.
A Family Dining Table at the Heart of the Store
One of the most meaningful elements of the Wyldwood Collective interior is a dining table that has been in my family for generations.
The table once belonged to my great-grandparents and was later passed down to my childhood home, where it played a central role in daily life. It was the setting for family dinners, school homework, long conversations, shared laughter, and moments of grief. For many years, it was quite literally the heart of our home.
Today, that same table sits at the heart of Wyldwood Collective, reimagined as a display space for the work of Sydney’s creatives. It holds flowers, shared ideas, quiet conversations with customers, and moments of pause throughout the day. Incorporating this piece into the fit-out grounds the space in memory and continuity, a reminder that meaningful design often begins with what we already have.
A Collaborative Creative Fit-Out
The Wyldwood Collective shop fit-out was made possible by the support of friends, family, and creatives who generously offered their time, skills, and encouragement. From lifting and building to problem-solving and decision-making, the process was collaborative from start to finish.
Completing the fit-out during the festive season came with challenges, but it also reinforced the sense of shared purpose behind the project. Wyldwood was not built alone—it was shaped collectively.
An Evolving Florist and Creative Space
While the fit-out was completed in early January 2026, the space itself will continue to evolve. Furniture will be rearranged, flowers will change with the seasons, and new creative works will be introduced over time.
Wyldwood Collective is designed to be a living space—one that grows, shifts, and adapts while remaining rooted in sustainability, craftsmanship, and story.
If you’re visiting us in Lavenderbay for the first time, we hope you feel the care behind the space: a shop fit-out shaped by reuse, memory, and community, built thoughtfully with the future in mind.
